SEO is constantly changing and evolving and one of those changes to note are tags. One should first search for a tag that has already been created rather than creating your own. Second, it is now very important to use a maximum of FIVE (5) tags for News and Sports, and a maximum of TEN (10) for Lifestyle.
Remember that if it is an important story like breaking news or a load-shedding announcement etc, you would need to use “Featured” as one of your tags so that it can have its time in the sun on the first three tiles of the home page before moving down.
There is also the “Important” tag, which ensures that your article stays in the first three tiles of the home page slightly longer, before sliding down the page. It’s especially useful for live blogs and breaking news.
Additionally, if a story deals with violence (sexual, child abuse, murder, suicide, self-harm etc…), hate speech, false information, sexually explicit content and similar, you need to include “Sensitive” as one of your tags. This will ensure that it’s kept off the MSN, Facebook and X feeds, which have tightened up their rules. Failure to do this could lead to us being sanctioned and removed from the platforms. See here for a full list of what constitutes sensitive content.
If in doubt, please err on the side of caution and include the “Sensitive” anyway, and/or speak to your manager or the TT&Q team.
Please also keep in mind that you need to use your unique tag when putting up a wire. An example is ACxFIJOL.
