Introduction

Images must reflect the story (obviously) but also reflect a tone or mood. Images should provide context or give a sense of proximity to the story. Hence location of the image taken is important. More pictures in the body text (in-body images) are encouraged but not paramount.

Featured images are allowed up to 2 Mb in size and should – very importantly – contain your chosen keyword or keyphrase in the “alt-text” box. That way, you’ll reach a higher SEO score before publishing.

It is a non-negotiable for images to be a minimum of 1200px in width. The height can be more flexible but aim for at least 857px. However, the preferred crop dimensions are 1920×1080. This should be applied 99.9% of the time.

Always download the image in its highest resolution, then crop it with whatever tool you are most comfortable using. If the image is still too big, you can upload it to a compressing tool online like compressjpeg.com or optimizilla.com.
For feature images: Horizontal only.
For in-body images and videos: Both horizontal and vertical images are allowed
